How We Work Together
Many of my clients have asked about my own methodology for writing copy. Naturally each project can vary. Below are my copywriting steps – simplified:
-
First, we’ll agree on your project scope and delivery dates.
-
I prefer to gather as much information as you currently have available that may include any raw data, research, current marketing, and or etc. I’ll review and study all of your current content.
-
I’ll give you creative brief to fill out. After you, or your members within your organization, fill out the creative brief, then I’ll review it and follow up with any further questions.
-
If your project requires that I speak or interview subject matter experts or clients, I will need their contact information. You’ll need to give them notice to expect my call. I’ll conduct the interviews with a list of questions that I have prepared in advance.
-
Some projects require additional research such as white papers, reports, articles, and other forms of copy. This often can be time consuming. I’ll conduct thorough research, so that I’m pulling information from a strong arsenal of facts.
-
After all information is digested and organized, I’ll send you an outline with suggested headlines for your approval. Sometimes, I’ll recommend writing 2 versions for a split test. This way you’ll know and execute the copy that generates the optimum leads.
-
When I receive your approval, I’ll begin writing. I typically will write the content fast. Let it breath for day and then start refining. I may make multiple revisions and rewrites, before I’m satisfied.
-
Once I’m pleased with it, then my professional editor will review it. This way you have two sets of eyes ensuring you receive the best copy. I’ll review, accept my editor’s changes and refine my copy one final time.
-
All copy gets submitted to you in a rough copy draft – usually in a Word document. I’ll make recommendations for images, image placement, colors, and fonts.
-
After you review it, I’ll make any revisions as long as your requests are within 30 days of receiving my copy and the changes are not new from our original scope. You are entitled to one round of revisions.
-
You’ll format my copy for web, direct mail, advertisement, or any media. Allow me to review it. This way, I’ll make any suggestions or recommendations. My interest is that my work attracts and generates the maximum response for your purpose.
-
If there is a royalty fee involved, I’ll suggest revisions and split tests free of charge during the life of the copy. I preferred it when my clients keep me posted on the results.
Some clients I’ll meet with on a weekly basis, either by conference call or in their office. For these clients I usually have a number copywriting projects.
